Nor Aisyah Umairah Becomes First PLANETIIUM Student to Win Best Student Award

GOMBAK, 8 December 2025: Nor Aisyah Umairah Binti Sha’ari became the first student under the Institute of Planetary Survival for Sustainable Well-Being (PLANETIIUM) to receive the best student award for the Master of Health Sciences from Kulliyyah of Medicine (KOM) during the second session of the 41st IIUM Convocation Ceremony held at the IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC).

“I feel truly honoured and grateful. Being recognised as the first PLANETIIUM student to receive this award reflects my hard work, dedication and perseverance throughout my studies, and it motivates me to continue striving for excellence,” Nor Aisyah said.

Her research journey focused on using CRISPR gene-editing technology to study kidney-related genes through HEK293 cell models instead of animal models.Reducing the reliance on animal testing and supporting more environmentally responsible scientific practices.

“What kept me going was the support from my parents, friends and my supervisor, knowing they believed in me pushed me forward, even during the toughest moments.” She said.

Her achievement stands as a reflection of resilience, passion for science, and a commitment to making research more sustainable. As she steps into her next chapter, her story serves as inspiration to other students who dare to dream, work hard, and make a difference.

The award, sponsored by Indahraya Ventures Sendirian Berhad, recognises outstanding academic excellence and research achievement among postgraduate students.
