‘Digital Parenting: Smart Online, Bright Future’ Urges Responsible Children’s Online Engagement

Ampang, Selangor, 13 December 2025 – ‘Digital Parenting: Smart Online, Brighter Future,’ an
event aims to raise awareness among parents and educators by promoting responsible digital engagement through effective monitoring of children’s online activities organized by Communications’ students, COMM 3318, Events & Campaigns, from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Keibubapaan Digital (KID) platform at Sekolah Islam Adni, Taman Sri Ukay.


The event was officiated by Dr. Rizalawati Ismail, Head of Communications Department of
AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kuliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences
(AHAS KIRKHS) during the opening speech. This half-day event was attended by a total of 80
attendees including educators, guardians, and 22 pairs of parents together with their kids.


“Digital parenting is an essential discussion that should be paid more attention and brought to a
wider public as it is an emerging and concerning social issue involving our children particularly
in this digital age,” urges Dr. Rizalawati Ismail in her speech.


‘Digital Parenting: Smart Online, Brighter Future’ underscore the vital message for parents,
educators, and guardians about the urgency in monitoring children’ online activities and media
consumptions. This measure is significant in raising responsible and virtuous online users among
children in the current setting or in the future.


The event was enlivened with an interactive practical sharing session, ‘Parenting Zaman Digital:
Tak Perlu Pening, Pasti Ada Jalannya!,’ and one forum with the topic of ‘Bukan Sekadar Skrin:
Cara Ibubapa Kekal Terlibat dalam Dunia Digital Anak.’ The guests and speakers for both
sessions were attended by interesting experts, educators, and well-known celebrity, Daler Yusuf.


Key Highlights
● ‘Parenting Zaman Digital: Tak Perlu Pening, Pasti Ada Jalannya!’
: This practical sharing session stressed on how the parents and guardians utilize technologies in monitoring their children’s online activities with Coach Huda, Talent DNA Master Coach.
● ‘Bukan Sekadar Skrin: Cara Ibubapa Kekal Terlibat dalam Dunia Digital Anak’: A forum that discussed about how parents are also responsible for the children’s online behaviour, digital activities, and media consumptions and what can they do in mitigating the negative impact.


Students’ Poster Exhibition and exciting children’s activities like colouring, puzzle, and origami were part of the attraction that occurred during the event in ensuring the children are also having fun during the event.

About Dr. Rizalawati Ismail
Dr. Rizalawati Ismail, Head of Department at the Department of Communication, International
Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), brings extensive expertise in media and communication
studies. With a PhD from the University of Melbourne and a Master’s in Corporate
Communication from Universiti Putra Malaysia, she specializes in media, culture, and society,
with a focus on audience identity, gender, and children’s digital engagement.


About COMM 3318, Events & Campaigns
COMM 3318 is an undergraduate subject offered by the Department of Communication at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Designed for students specializing in Strategic Communication, the course bridges theory with practice through hands-on training in campaign planning, event management, and applied communication strategies. By combining classroom learning with real-world projects, COMM 3318 equips students with the skills to design impactful initiatives, foster collaboration, and lead communication efforts that contribute to organizational success and societal development.
