GOMBAK, 12 November 2017: Free food distribution was made available at CONVEST ’17 or Convocation Fiesta for the IIUM community at business compound, in front of SHAS Mosque, from 12.45 p.m until 2 p.m yesterday (11 November).

Called  ‘Rewang Convest’, IIUM community members were seen queuing up for food handled by the committees.

The objective of the programme was to instil the spirit of volunteerism and teamwork among the students, its committee member, Muhammad Afiq Norazman said.

“Everyone loves food, so by sharing this, we hope that they will be happy and this is why we want to share the love and happiness among IIUM community,” he said.

“I am very satisfied with this work as I can manage the food distribution to all students very well,” said one of the volunteers.

Sponsored by Restoran Nelayan Gombak Batu 8, this ‘rewang’ event served a variety of food, the main dish being plain rice with chicken curry.

“Alhamdulillah, the food provided was so delicious and there’s also Rohingya food which is rare for me, but it’s good and I’m so satisfied with it even though I have to come early to queue up,” said Suwaibah Mardhiyah, one of the students who took the free food.

It was estimated that almost 500 people were served with food from the ‘rewang’, including the Rohingya dishes.

Before the food distribution, students were entertained by the singing performance from The Prism.

CONVEST ’17 is the largest programme held in conjunction with the 33rd Convocation which started yesterday (11 November) and would end on Monday (13 November). It received support mainly from NAMA Foundation. ***
