Bangkok, 30 July 2025: The IIUMToday ASEAN Media Attachment 2025 delegation to Bangkok, Thailand, was featured on a special live broadcast, on Thailand Public Broadcasting Service (ThaiPBS) news, today, see minute 11.11: https://www.youtube.com/live/NTAfS6duQh0?reload=9.
The live broadcast was created by highlighting two major issues currently happening in the country, which are the Thai-Cambodia conflict and the northern Thailand floods. IIUMToday’s appearance on the live broadcast coincides with a significant diplomatic development as Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, mediated a ceasefire between the two countries, a day before the broadcast. This has underscored Malaysia’s significant role as a nation that prioritises peace and harmony, making the experience even more meaningful for the delegates.

The visit to Thai PBS was not just a mere feature on the live broadcast, it was more than that. The delegates were given the opportunity to observe the process of coordinating live broadcasts, breaking news and witnessing firsthand insights into the fast-paced environment of a national newsroom. The students also got to tour the Thai PBS facilities like the production studios, broadcasting rooms, control rooms with different functions, and function in coordinating multiple news and media broadcasts at the same time.
The tour was made comprehensive as students were able to directly engage with Thai PBS’s staff to enhance their understanding of the operational aspects of a major broadcasting network.

The visit concluded with an insightful journalism session led by a Muslim Thai PBS World journalist and content creator, Abdul Latif, who discussed ethical reporting practices and the evolving role of journalism in addressing societal challenges. He also showed his documentary on the Eid celebration by Thais in Thailand.
Overall, the meaningful visit had equipped the delegates with profound knowledge to experience hands-on professional journalism in action while furnishing their perspective on media power in a nation.
ThaiPBS is a form of public media that is funded by taxes and is independent from the government. ***
