GOMBAK, 9 January 2025: The Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT) in tandem with Information and Communication Technology Students’ Society (ICTSS), organised their fourth Innovative Tech Expo (INNOVATEX) which spotlights students’ final-year project (FYP) at the Main Hall of IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC), IIUM Gombak.

Centred on ‘innovation’ and ‘technology,’ this one-day event not only aims to engage final-year students of KICT with students from other kulliyyahs and the public, but also serves as a platform for them to proudly present their hard-earned and dedicated works.

Divided into two sections; Information Technology (IT) and Computer Science (CS), some of the interesting project titles include “Dental Record System for Autism: Dentism,” QalamiQuest: Web-Application for Developing Qualitative Research Proposal and Searching Islamic References,” “IIUM E-Medcare Portal,” and “LUNA: Bridging the Communities with Sign Language Translation.”

The presenters were assessed by judges.

According to the programme manager, Nuralya Medina, she asserted, “for this semester, we have over 185 projects presentation from FYP 1 and FYP 2 which is less than in the previous semester. However, we have managed to doubled the number of competitions, reflecting our students’ enthusiasm.”

In asking about the need to conduct a physical presentation, she asserted, “we want our talented students to be seen and not restrict to the community of our kulliyyah solely. Besides, our students get to compete with each other as there will be competitions in which their projects will be assessed by lecturers and people from the industries.”

“We also invited 20 external judges from multiple industries to witness our students’ creativtiy and provide them with networking opportunities. Students will get a direct exposure of what the industries are looking for, based on the feedbacks they received from their projects,” she added.

When asked one of the presenters, Muhammad Syabil Irfan, stated, “FYP is an arduous process, so being able to present it is what makes it exciting and seeing other presenters, I have gained a lot of inspiration as well.”
