Gombak, 9 January 2025: The IIUM Engineering Students’ Society’s, (ENGINIUS) newly elected president, Adam Danial bin Mohd Azri, with a dynamic background, shared his vision to strengthen the engineering society, after the IIUM ENGINIUS 24/25 election results were announced on 11 December 2024, at IIUM Gombak.

Having resided in various parts of Malaysia, he overcame challenges during the pandemic, transitioning from studying medicine in Ireland to pursuing Mechanical Engineering at Kulliyyah of Engineering (KOE), IIUM. This highlights a pivotal shift in his academic journey, shaping his resilience but also instilling the essence of adaptability and transparent communication.

Adam’s fate as an IIUM student mirrored his discernment in making changes in ENGINIUS. He was motivated to tackle transparency and communication issues within the engineering community. Guided by the ethos, “be the change you want to see,” he aims to foster a data-driven, competitive, and collaborative engineering society.

Therefore, he had presented a strong manifesto, highlighting three core pillars of his leadership.

He aimed to build bridges by promoting active collaboration with universities locally and globally to foster knowledge exchange and enhance opportunities. He also emphasised empowering students’ growth especially to improve students’ skills, particularly in AI and LLM technologies, while encouraging holistic personal development. Lastly, nurturing welfare by introducing proactive initiatives such as providing free sanitary products for sisters and expanding food bank programs to address student needs.

He added, “I, myself have experienced going to class with an empty stomach, hence, it is our responsibility as an ummah to take care of each other and to create an ideal environment for the students to study.”

With what he had experienced personally, he is also empathetic of others, making it one of his major manifestos to take care of KOE students’ well-being.

Apart from that, Adam also emphasised the importance of fostering leadership among student councils, eager to transform them into platforms for nurturing leaders rather than mere program managers. He said, “I want the students to have leaders amongst them to look up to, not just mere programme managers. Nurturing leaders is one of my goals as president.”

Intertwined with his manifesto, he seeks to destigmatise AI use in the kulliyyah, emphasising its potential to enhance learning and streamline tasks. He intends to replace fear-based decision-making with critical thinking and plans to introduce hands-on clubs like Roboteam, Satellite Club and SAE Club, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.

As the new academic year unfolds, the ENGINIUS 24/25 council, led by Adam Danial, is ready to embark on this transformative journey.

Adam stated optimistically, “I hope the engineering community within KOE is willing to accept my challenge to rise together, to elevate our engineers as products of the IIUM to a whole new level of excellence and competency, on par with McGill University in Canada, on par with UTP even.”

With a dedicated leader navigating the helm, ENGINIUS is well on its path to achieving excellence, fostering innovation and nurturing a supportive ecosystem for all.***
