GOMBAK, 9 January 2025: Muhammad Zulnazmi Rafiqi bin Azhary, a second-year Computer Science student from IIUM’s Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), is the new president of the Information and Communication Technology Students’ Society (ICTSS) tenure for 2024/2025. With his previous experience as the Officer for Sport and Recreation in the past ICTSS line-up, Zulnazmi has a variety of leadership experiences, having organized events such as hiking programs, KICT Sports Day, and an e-sports tournament in the past.
In an exclusive interview with IIUM Today, driven by a desire for personal growth and leadership development, Zulnazmi conveyed his aspiration to be the best of himself while serving others. He described his leadership style as supportive that prioritises the needs of students in academics and extracurricular activities. His focus is on creating inclusive events that everyone can enjoy with their friends while fostering a stronger sense of community.
Zulnazmi further explained his three manifestos to change ICTSS, he aims to lead ICTSS by recognising the contributions of ICTSS members through awards like, ‘Behind The Scenes Hero Award’ and ‘Event Star Award’ to appreciate their often overlooked efforts. Next, he plans to initiate a monthly feedback form so that students can share their concerns about facilities and services, and ensure that every student’s voice is heard and will be addressed. Lastly, he also expressed his vision in broadening partnerships with other Kulliyyahs and organisations in ICT-related programs, one of his major plans includes organising a large-scale STEM Expo to encourage idea sharing and learning among the students.
Inspired by Gwen Stacy’s words to Spiderman, he delivered his aspiration for ICTSS to, “keep the hope alive” by creating a positive and welcoming environment for KICT students. He emphasised the importance of having hope during challenging times, aiming to inspire the students to embrace their studies and activities with joy.
In the last session of the interview with IIUM Today, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to his parents, brothers, friends, and past ICTSS line-up, particularly his former committees in Sports and Recreation. He acknowledged their support and guidance in shaping his leadership journey. Zulnazmi ended on an emotional note, saying, “Guys, I love you 3,000 times.”
Zulnazmi, together with his dedicated committee members, will lead ICTSS in delivering meaningful initiatives and memorable experiences for KICT students. The following students are the new committee members for the 24/25 tenure:
