GOMBAK, 9 January 2025: The Friends of the Library Club (FLIC) organised its 6th Annual Grand Meeting (AGM) to celebrate the club’s milestone as well as mark the conclusion and transition of the 23/24 tenure at the Library Meeting Room of IIUM Gombak, on 3 January 2025.
The event began with the opening remarks by the Chief Librarian of Dar al-Hikmah Library and sponsor of FLIC, Madam Yusrina binti Abu Bakar. “Introduced in 2019, this club acts as the “wings” for the library, promoting its programs and engaging with students and the IIUM community through cooperative efforts between the club and the library,” she explained.
Madam Yusrina also acknowledged the success of the 23/24 tenure, saying, “Many interesting programmes have been conducted this year and I hope the next tenure will continue to grow.”
The event continued with secretarial and financial reports by Sr. Nur Liyana and Br. Mohamad Farihin. In the secretarial report, Sr. Liyana unveiled all programmes conducted for the 23/24 tenure and asserted, “These programmes are evident that we adhere to the club’s motto – Fun, Literature and Camaraderie.”
In a presidential speech by the 23/24 FLIC president, Muhamad Shaireza bin Jaafar, he expressed his appreciation towards the members of the 23/24 tenure, stating “None of the programmes would be realised without your hard work and dedication.”
He also thanked the library advisors, saying “Your guidance and support, I will carry them with me forever.” As he marked his tenure’s conclusion, he said, “I am fortunate to be part of this story because this is the club that I call home and I hope the next tenure feels the same way too.”
The pinnacle of the event saw the transition of the tenure of committees through the appointment of newly elected candidates of FLIC’s tenure 24/25 followed by a presidential address from the new president, Ahmad Shamueel bin Jalal.
In an interview with IIUMToday, Shamueel expressed his excitement as the new FLIC’s president for 24/25 tenure, asserting, “I believe the experiences I gained participating from previous clubs and societies have embedded enough confidence within me to lead this club successfully.”
“I believe we can achieve creativity and inclusivity as long as we align with the Shari’a compliance. I also welcome the collaboration with other clubs in promoting the library,” he added.
The event concluded with a token of appreciation to Madam Yusrina, a photography session and a meal with all the members and advisors.***
