GOMBAK, 9 January 2025: Project Integrity, an association formed by the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS) held a program titled, ESG: Planting Seeds for A Better Tomorrow, in collaboration with Tenaga Switchgear Sdn. Bhd. (TSG), a subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad specializing in gas and air switchgear. The event, held on 13 December 2024 at the IIUM, marked the launch of Integrity Garden, a newly established green space located within KENMS. The garden, fully sponsored by TSG, aims to provide a functional and aesthetic area for students and staff while helping TSG strives to empower communities and foster sustainability through its corporate social responsible (CSR) engagements.

Hasanul Hakim, the chairperson of Project Integrity 2024/25, emphasized the broader meaning of integrity during an exclusive interview with IIUM Today:

“Integrity is not only about preventing money laundering or avoiding breaches of trust within a company, it is also about being responsible in carrying out your duties and upholding ethical conduct in all aspects of your work, even towards nature.”

The primary objective of this project is to foster stronger industry-academia collaborations, creating meaningful and sustainable relationships with corporate entities. The program’s main activity was a community clean-up effort to transform an underutilized open space near the KENMS surau into a vibrant garden. The location previously a vacant and unused area was identified as having significant potential due to its strategic position. Volunteers, including students and staff, worked together to plant trees, beautify the area, and install facilities for communal use.

Despite the unpredictable weather, the committee’s dedication and teamwork ensured the program’s success. Integrity Garden is expected to serve multiple purposes, including providing a public space for KENMS students and staff to gather, study, or relax, as well as a practical site for KAED (Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design) students’ landscape assessments and projects.

This initiative has created a significant opportunity for Integrity Project to establish and strengthen connections with companies and industries. Project Integrity has been dedicated to fostering such relationships, aiming to bridge the gap between educational institutions and the professional world. This collaboration not only supports sustainability and community-focused efforts but also opens doors tofuture projects that align with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, benefiting both students and community.***
