GOMBAK, 6 January 2025: As the election season for Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS) drew to an end, the campus was filled with excitement and anticipation as it progressed. For many students, the election was not just about choosing the new president, however it was an opportunity to shape the future of student life in the kulliyyah. Osman bin Safee, a former member of the Bachelor of Accounting Council (BACC) had emerged victorious receiving 633 votes compared to his opponent that secured 561 votes after a week of hard work, determination and strong support from his peers. What began as an unexpected decision to run turned into a meaningful chance for growth, leadership and learning in which the qualities that he believe will define his term as President of Economics and Management Sciences Society (EMSS) for the 2024/2025 tenure.
The polling day for Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS) election took place on December 19, with the total of 1,194 voters casting their ballots. The voter turnout was 30.57 percent of first-year student, 55.13 percent of second year students, 54.22 percent of third-year students and 37.36 percent of fourth-year students. The annoucement of the result for presidential seat was made later that evening, leaving students eagerly awaiting the outcome of a week-long campaign.
A second-year student in the Bachelor of Accounting program, Osman bin Safee, did not initially plan to run for the presidential seat. However, his involvement in BACC, combined with support from friends and colleagues, gave him the confidence to pursue the position. “I believe that differences in age, perspectives, and environments are not obstacles but they are opportunities for growth,” he said. His experience in the council prepared him to take on the responsibilities of the role, and he now sees it as an exciting challenge rather than a burden.
Throughout his campaign, Osman emphasized his eagerness to learn, grow and experience new challenges that await him. Despite the tiring campaign week, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the experience of the campaign itself was just as valueable as the result. “This election was never about win or lose. It was about how I delivered my message and the experience that I gained,” he explained.
A key aspect of his leadership philosophy is learning from others. Osman will regularly seek for feedback and advice from his former council, friends and even lecturers. With their support, he believe that he can achieve his vision for the kulliyyah. His ability to balance his academic responsibilities and leadership duties reflects his commitment to both of his studies and role as a president. Not only that, he believe that staying occupied makes him more functional and focused in his responsible.
Looking ahead, Osman is eager and committed to starting his tenure with all the new line up of EMSS positively by following proper procedure and maintaining goodwill throughout his term of duty. He values diplomacy, communication and engagement as essential qualities of an effective and efficient leadership. He believes these traits will help bring harmony and progress to the kulliyyah, ensuring that all students benefit from a more inclusive and supportive enviroment.***
