GOMBAK, December 12, 2023: The International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) 40th anniversary closing ceremony was held in conjunction with the Palestine Charity Night and was graced by the presence of the IIUM Constitutional Head, Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda The Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, yesterday (9 December 2023).
The IIUM’s 40th-anniversary celebration, which kicked off earlier in the year, witnessed numerous activities organized by various Kulliyyahs and Departments, engaging both staff and students.
A notable highlight occurred on May 20 this year as the IIUM reflects upon its 40th anniversary, was when Her Majesty who is also the IIUM Constitutional Head presented an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Leadership to His Royal Highness His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda The Yang Dipertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah.
The Closing Ceremony and Palestine Charity Night held yesterday served as the apex of the year-long festivities. The event focused on fostering unity among IIUM members and expressing gratitude to all contributors. Student and alumni involvement played a pivotal role in organizing the evening, which featured diverse performances, including zhikir barat, caklempong, angklung, gamelan, wayang kulit, nasyid, and various musical and percussion groups.
Expressing his sentiments, the Rector of the IIUM, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak noted in a statement that, “this ceremony signifies the conclusion of our 40th-anniversary celebration and serves as a gesture of appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of our activities throughout the year.”
The ceremony was also attended by Members of the IIUM Board of Governors, IIUM President Tan Sri Samsudin Osman, the University Management Committee, senior officers, and the vibrant community of staff and students of IIUM.
In his closing remarks, the Rector emphasized the collective appreciation for Her Majesty’s participation and extended solidarity to the Palestinian people, reflecting the university’s commitment to global issues and its role as a responsible and engaged educational institution. ***
