GOMBAK, 10 March 2026: A fourth year student from Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), Luqman Alhakim bin Malik Arman, has successfully developed an innovative calendar application named “Fyutr” to centralise academic tasks and enhance the digital user experience for IIUM students.
This began as a passion project during his first year to address technical difficulties and poor interfaces which is often provided by standard university portals. The application allows students to instantly obtain their schedule by integrating calendars from Innovative Teaching and Learning Environment System (iTa’LeEM) into a real time, single, and clean interface.
This project also introduced an open-source integration which he named “Fyutr Connect”, which allows student developers from other institutions to be able to experience and contribute to the growing ecosystem.
With this collaborative effort, it allows the platform to grow and be transparent to its users, branching to other universities.
“We actually don’t own that data. I figured that if I want to do some things like that, it’s best for it to be open, something a lot of people can use,” said the developer, Luqman.
In the interview, he shared that the application uses over-the-air (OTA) updates to ensure that quick updates fixing technical issues within minutes, which bypasses the long wait periods that app stores review take.
He also noted, “I think a major criteria for there to be successful startup is you need have flexibility.” Being able to adapt to harsh conditions is the key to success.
This development was carried out to support the student body by simplifying the digital navigation and preparing for future social features, which includes a chat function and direct links to academic resources. The project aims to improve the quality of campus life by making the university experience more engaging and organized.***
