Pillars painted green. Glass doors newly installed. Students could be seen walking in the same direction, many holding identical cups as they made their way across campus. That was when it became clear — WeDrink had finally opened at IIUM!

WeDrink, a café chain originating from China, is widely known for its affordable tea-based drinks and ice cream. The café has quickly attracted the attention of students eager to try its colourful beverages and desserts. The affordable price is also another great factor that pushes the students to try the items that are offered by the café (see: https://www.wedrink.ltd/).

The café was currently holding its soft opening from 1 to 5 April 2026, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., drawing a steady stream of curious students and staff who want to experience the newly opened spot for themselves.

For many students, the café offers something different from the usual options available on campus. Several students shared their experiences after visiting the café during its opening days.

Mia, one of the students who were eager to try the newly opened café, said she was curious about WeDrink after previously trying drinks and ice creams from a similar franchise. She heard about the café from her friends and was drawn to its lively interior and unusual drink selections.

“If you’re the kind of person who likes to try something new, you should definitely try WeDrink,” she said.

Another student, who preferred to remain anonymous, said she decided to visit the café after her friend suggested trying it together. She ordered an ice cream sundae and described the taste as satisfying. She also noted that the queue moved fairly quickly, taking about three to five minutes for her to place and receive her order. According to her, WeDrink offers something different from other cafés on campus, with its wider variety of drinks and ice cream options.

Another student, Shuhada, said she was interested in trying WeDrink because its menu reminded her of the popular ice cream chain Mixue. She learned about the café through the official TikTok account of IIUM and recommendations from friends.

Shuhada said the drinks tasted similar to Mixue but felt they were better than beverages offered by some other cafés around campus. She also appreciated the affordable prices and the variety of tea-based drinks available.

“I like trying new things, so I might try all the menu here,” she said jokingly, adding that the café suits her preference for tea rather than coffee or chocolate drinks.

The opening of WeDrink appears to have made a noticeable impact on the daily routine of students. What was once a quiet corner of the campus that few students passed by has transformed into a lively hotspot, with many stopping by to try the drinks or simply spend time with friends.

The café has already begun attracting a steady stream of curious visitors. For some students, the café offers a refreshing alternative to existing food and beverage options on campus.

WeDrink may become one of the new social spaces where conversations, study breaks and casual meet-ups take place. For now, the café has succeeded in capturing the curiosity of the campus community.***
