39th IIUM Convocation: ‘Study by heart and everything will be easy,’ says Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdurahim

GOMBAK, 1 December 2023: When asked about the challenges he faced during his study, instead of mentioning the obstacles, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdurahim Okhunov said, “Study by heart and everything will be easy.” He mentioned this in an interview with IIUM Today at the 39th IIUM Convocation Ceremony. It reflected the love he put into pursuing knowledge.

Assoc. Prof Dr. Abdurahim was the first person who received a scroll for completing his Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Studies at the Centre for Islamisation (CENTRIS). He was awarded with his scroll in the ninth session on 29 November 2023, of the final day of the convocation. He is currently a lecturer in the Department of Science at the Kulliyyah of Engineering.

It has been several years now since Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdurahim started his academic journey at the IIUM, he expressed his gratitude and said that he was very happy being able to be part of the IIUM community. “This is one of the best universities for Islamic studies,” he further explained.

“Students can gain even more when learning and become future leaders but they must study by heart, and when studying by heart anyone will be good and professional in the area,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdurahim sincerely.

Originating from Uzbekistan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdurahim was a Visiting Research Fellow at Universiti Malaya (UM) from 2009 to 2012, when he visited Malaysia for the first time. He completed his PhD in Physics & Mathematics at the Nuclear Physics Institute of Uzbek Academy of Sciences and his Master’s degree in Science (Physics) at Tashkent State University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdurahim advised future graduates to be purposeful when pursuing knowledge. “Take Islamic studies for the sake of the ummah,” he mentioned.***
