SOCASA & COSA organise a successful social media marketing and management workshop

GOMBAK, 16 November 2023: The Secretariat of Sociology & Anthropology (SOCASA) and Communication Student Association (COSA) recently orchestrated an impactful workshop entitled, “Upskilling Skills: Social Media Marketing & Management Workshop”.

The collaborative effort was aimed at emphasizing essential marketing strategies and enhancing social skills pivotal for business initiation. This programme resonated strongly with the communication-focused criteria for students at the IIUM.

Mashitah Jafridin, the Programme Manager, highlighted specific workshop topics that engaged participants and emphasized the significance of integrated marketing communication (IMC).

Participants delved into the intricacies of social media marketing, gaining insights on leveraging platforms like Facebook Marketplace, Instagram, and Carousell for effective product sales. The workshop’s conclusion featured a game session designed to reinforce participants’ understanding of social media marketing concepts.

Assistant Programme Manager, Marsya Maisarah, expressed the programme’s intent to encourage students to actively engage in society, fostering social networking and crucially enhancing soft skills—particularly in digital marketing—preparing students for their transition into job industries post-graduation. This emphasis on market trends on social media platforms aims to bolster participants’ employability.

Mashitah remarked, “Social media marketing and management are pivotal in today’s professional landscape, and our workshop, spearheaded by Associate Professor Dr. Aida binti Mokhtar, provided invaluable insights into leveraging social platforms effectively for brand visibility, consumer engagement, and targeted advertising.”

The workshop was tailored to accommodate participants with beginner-level knowledge in social media marketing, aiming to equip future graduates with the necessary skills to delve into business initiatives post-graduation. Its primary focus revolved around introducing and guiding individuals interested in starting their entrepreneurial journey.

“The collaboration with COSA was a strategic choice due to the alignment of our program’s objectives with the communication-focused criteria,” stated Mashitah, highlighting the cohesive nature of the collaboration.

Expressing her gratitude, Marsya emphasized the effective collaborative team effort and the workshop’s smooth execution. She expressed appreciation for Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aida’s expertise, noting her captivating presentation style and the invaluable insights shared during the session.

Opened to the entire IIUM community, the workshop was conducted in English on Friday, 10 November 2023, from 10.00 AM to 12.30 PM at ADM LT 1. Participating IIUM students were provided with starpoints, contributing to their academic development.***
