GOMBAK, 8 August 2023: As the meaning of Takrim itself is honouring, thus, an event called Takrim Day 2023 was held to honour the community of IIUM who has been contributing to the university one way or another, making the university what it is today.
The Rector of the IIUM, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, in his speech stated that it is imperative to have a Takrim Day as the university seldom or rarely honours people who have done very well and most people do not recognize the people who have been contributing.
“Sometimes, they are not visible, sometimes they are unsung heroes, or humble and have humility, which shadows them from what they are doing,” he added.
He also highlighted that this event is not only to celebrate the achievement of the community of the IIUM but also to affirm commitment and to realise the university’s vision and mission are to build a society that is sustainable.
“This is in the context of the upliftment of human life and civilization through humanizing education, teaching our students the acronym ˜Khair which means to do good and be good as they come unto you,” he mentioned.
He concluded his speech by expressing his hope that the university will continue to be the beacon of excellence and be guided to a brighter and better future which is more sustainable.
