GOMBAK, 24 November 2023: To encourage students to choose their student leaders in a fair election and improve the Kulliyyah and student societies, the fifth AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) Students Election 2023 will be held from 20 November 2023 until 14 December 2023Â
In motivating the students to vote and participate in the election, various programmes will be organized by the AHAS KIRKHS Election Commission 2023.
In addition, this year’s election will be held in a hybrid format, where events will be done physically while voting will be done through an online platform, Google Forms.
The timeline for the upcoming election will be as follows:
- Notice of Election
This programme provides official election information to AHAS KIRKHS students in the hopes of increasing the number of voters. The event took place on Monday (20 November 2023) from 9.00 pm until 10.00 pm on Zoom and YouTube.
- Nomination Day
The announcement of the candidates will be mentioned in the programme to allow the students to know more about the election and the candidates. It will be held on the online platform, YouTube, on Friday (1 December 2023) from 10.00am until 6.00pm.
- Campaign period
During the campaign period, candidates will have the opportunity to showcase their leadership abilities, sharpen their talents, and become prepared to lead the organization. The platforms that are provided for the candidates to do their campaigning are as follows:
1. Speakers Corner
The Speaker’s Corner provides a stage for uncontested candidates. Its goal is to give the candidates an opportunity that allows them to present their manifestos, engage with AHAS KIRKHS students and present their ideas for 10 minutes. The event will take place on Thursday (7 December 2023) from 5.00pm until 6.00pm at HS Square.
2. Workshop
The Election Commission of 2023 will organise this programme as a platform to train candidates for positions of leadership.
Furthermore, this programme aims to familiarize candidates with the duties of future leaders as well as present on the conditions faced by AHAS KIRKHS students. Therefore, it is imperative that all candidates take part in the programme. This workshop will be held on Saturday (9 December 2023) at HS LT1.
3. Secretariat Debate
The main objective of the programme is to give each candidate the opportunity to be Chairperson; an opportunity to discuss their manifestos with students. The programme will take place on Monday (11 December 2023) from 5.00pm until 6.00pm at HS LT1, HS Square and ADM LT3.
4. Secretary and Treasurer Debate
A programme for contested candidates for the positions of Secretary and Treasurer giving them an opportunity to present their manifestos and ideas with AHAS KIRKHS students. The debate will be held on Tuesday (12 December 2023) from 8.00pm until 11.00pm at the Mini Auditorium.
5. Presidential Debate
In this event, candidates will demonstrate their eligibility for their respective constituencies through their manifestos and share their thoughts with AHAS KIRKHS students.
Additionally, it is hoped that this debate will serve as the springboard for candidates in their leadership journey. The event will take place on Wednesday (13 December 2023) from 8.00pm until 11.00pm at the Mini Auditorium.
- Polling Day
A highly anticipated event, the polling day, will take a unique turn where candidates themselves will vote for their preferred candidates.
With this initiative, it is hoped that it will increase student awareness of the significance of the elections at AHAS KIRKHS. Polling day will start on Thursday (14 December 2023) from 9.00am until 5.00pm.
The result of the election will be announced on the same day as the polling day via IIUM TV from 8.30pm until 9.00pm and published by IIUM Today.***
