GOMBAK, 13 October 2023: The Department of Communication held its Communication Academic Briefing (CAB) for Semester I, 2023/2024, on Wednesday last week (4 October) in HSC LR 4 and 5, to brief first-year Communication students about the Department’s course offerings and facilitate the development of their personalised study plans.

Speaking to the new intake of Communication students during CAB, former Head of Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeti Azreen Ahmad emphasised the purpose of CAB, which is to furnish students with extensive details regarding the programme and specialisations offered by the Department of Communication.

œIt is important for you to be informed about the Programme Educational Objectives (PEO) and Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO) that were designed for all courses, she stated.

Students were thereafter informed of the courses they were likely to be taking and the potential careers open to them if they chose either specialisation.

There was also a briefing to the students on the study plan of students with matriculation numbers starting 231 onwards and the two specialisations, Strategic Communication (SC) and Integrated Media Journalism (IMJ) by the Head of the Department of Communication, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tengku Siti Aisha Tengku Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen. She spoke on the relevance of each specialisation in terms of the knowledge and skills students would acquire and how they would prepare them well for the industry once they graduated.

She also underlined to students the importance of making the right decision about the area of specialisation they choose to pursue because, once it has been made, there is no turning back to change to a different specialisation.

Later, the IIUM.fm Advisor, Madam Zarita binti Kasim, provided an in-depth explanation of IMJ after being questioned by a few students regarding its activities in relation to IIUM.fm and other media.

“Specialising in IMJ would make it possible for you to work in various broadcasting agencies, including TV, radio stations and newspapers among others,” she said.

CAB was attended by a pool of 85 new intake students and Department lecturers, that encompass:

  1. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeti Azreen Ahmad
