GOMBAK, 21 May 2022: A candidate fighting for the seat of Deputy President 1 of IIUM Student Union (IIUMSU), Yuuveraj Pillai, unveiled his manifesto by focusing on running the Gombak campus efficiently for the students.
The second-year student of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) shared his past experience of being in the Office of the President in charge of Public Relations in the last tenure of IIUMSU in an interview with IIUMToday.
He also worked in the Law Society of AIKOL, handled many programmes such as the Yusuf Al-Qaradawi Conference organized by IIUMSU, and is currently an Assistant Welfare Officer in the Parliamentary Welfare Centre.
With the slogan, œMake Gombak Great Again, Yuuveraj aspires to bring back the glory days of IIUM Gombak Campus with high Islamic Spirit and a union that fights for the students.
Yuuveraj expressed that his vision of making Gombak great again is a huge agenda that no one else is willing to fight for.Â
œAs difficult as it may be, I believe its time for a revamp to take place and I believe I have the capacity to do it, said the candidate explaining the reason for his passion for contesting in the election.
Yuuveraj insisted that his vision of having a great campus again would only be feasible with the four items of his manifesto:
- Sustainable and efficient mobility
- Well-maintained and safe infrastructure
- Welfare-centric student development
- Accountable and inclusive union
He emphasized that all of the items of his manifesto are very student-centric as he believed that this is what the IIUMSU stands for.
œThese are not difficult to achieve as it requires working and having a good relationship with the administration office,” he explained how he were to execute his manifesto.
He added that his plan is to convince the university that the manifesto has the most pressing issues for students.
He believed that a good leader is a person who really knows what he is getting into and takes swift action.
œThe leader should be confident, knowledgeable, and well-read of his or her job scope and have empathy in order to serve the students in the best capacity, he added.
He expressed his hope that the students themselves realize that student power only exists when everyone is united.
“Nothing is impossible to be executed so long as we are united and sincere in seeking it. The students can actually make a change and it is proven in the past. Come forward and do your part by voting on the 25th of May, Yuuveraj concluded.***
