Reforming the education system has been carried out several times in the past according to students’ needs. The most recent change was the abolishment of Pentaksiran Tingkatan Tiga (PT3) in June 2022.
The examinations evaluate the student’s ability to excel in subjects after three years of studying. Not only was it exhausting for students, it had taken away their love for learning and prevented intellectual growth.
Once students reach university, their experience will be limited to examination evaluations, which have caused them to feel alienated. This is due to the fact that schools prioritise rote learning above preparing students for presentations and team work for group projects.
This type of educational structure, which prevents students from developing their individuality or originality, may hinder the student’s ability to think critically and act independently.
A good education system is important for academicians, teachers, students, and the world. A reformation of the education system needs everyone’s support in renewing better options for future children.
Everything changes over time as technology and thinking advance. What might become relevant five years ago may not be equivalent today. In chasing the fast paced job market, the education system needs redesigning in order to be relevant for future workers.
One of the pertinent viewpoints to be taken into account is to exclude preconceptions of grading classes and include non-grading classes. In Malaysia, students who choose to major in the arts were regarded as weak and were informed they would not gain employment.
Art studies is one of the most relevant courses in this generation. The economy is booming with new businesses, and business owners are in desperate need of designers, creators, and decorators.
An excellent education system prepares the students to learn without feeling degraded. Science classes should not be held in high regard, and should art classes be degraded. Students should be able to appreciate and enjoy what they study instead of feeling like they are competing.
A change as significant as the educational system begins with modest initiatives such as media coverage or petitions from parents and teachers to get everyone’s attention.
We should not be afraid to discuss the obstacles and constraints that currently exist in our educational system.
In order to reorganise and enhance the educational system, we should be able to communicate openly with one another and support the need to find alternate pathways for progressing to attain a better future. ***
