GOMBAK, 4 December 2022: Nur Aisyah Binti Mohamed Ibrahim from Kulliyyah of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws (AIKOL) was one of the two recipients of the Royal Education Award in the first session of the 38th IIUM Convocation Ceremony.

In her valedictorian speech, she mentioned how everyone’s journey in seeking knowledge would never go in vain as she quoted from a hadith, ‘whoever takes a path to seek knowledge, Allah will make their path to Jannah easy’.

In an interview with IIUMToday, Nur Aisyah shared that her journey in IIUM was filled with a lot of co-curricular activities as she ended up joining a lot of programs and becoming a leader in many societies.

“I also place high expectations on myself and would consider myself an academic-oriented person while balancing it with co-curricular activities,” she added.

When asked about her struggles while studying, she mentioned the challenges in learning laws as it involved a lot of memorization and was especially hard during online learning when the pandemic hit.

“It’s hard to ask questions online and you no longer have the ability to consult lecturers freely because you feel as though you’ll disturb them if you text them,” she explained.

Further, Nur Aisyah commented that her mother has been a big inspiration to her as she continues to seek knowledge at the age of 45 and has ambitioned to follow in her mother’s footsteps.

“She did her master’s and started teaching afterwards but then still decided to get her PhD at the age of 45 with five children, while I’m complaining about my degree,” Nur Aisyah explained.

She concluded the interview by advising all struggling students to take it one step at a time and if they don’t stop trying, they will reach the destination eventually. ***
