ICESCO receives the Ibn Khaldun Merit Award at the 38th Convocation

GOMBAK, 4 December 2022: The Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO), a non-profit organisation founded to build the knowledge and expertise of countries of the muslim world was conferred the Ibn Khaldun Merit Award for Global Transformation yesterday (3 December).

The award was presented by Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda The Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj to the director of ICESCO, Dr. Amira Elfadil, at the 38th IIUM Convocation.

ICESCO has been serving the Islamic world since its founding in 1982 and is home to 54 member states and three observer states. Its main mission is to build the knowledge and skills of muslim countries to advance the Islamic world towards sustainable development through education, science, and culture.

“It is indeed an honour for ICESCO to receive the prestigious Ibn Khaldun Merit Award,” Dr Amira remarked. She continued by highlighting ICESCO’s dedication to serving the Islamic world as a whole.

“ICESCO will also continue to empower and promote the position of youth and women and encourage the intensive participation of Malaysian women in its various educational, cultural, and scientific programmes,” Dr. Amira added in her speech.

She thanked ICESCO’s strategic partners in Malaysia including IIUM and the Malaysian Ministry of Education.

She also congratulated all graduating IIUM students in her concluding remark and prayed for the continuous success of IIUM as an institution.***
