KUANTAN, 28 September 2021: Maryam Muzamir, a year-five student at Sekolah Kebangsaan Perempuan Methodist, Kuantan, made a name for herself after winning three gold medals in the Sixth International Invention, Innovation Competition (iCan) in Toronto, Canada last month.

Maryam achieved her success after creating an animal feed innovation from shrimp skins and sucking snails called YAM 2.0.

The 11-year-old student was shocked when she was informed that she had won three gold medals as a result of the innovation.

“I am happy because this success has lifted my spirits. I am grateful to the family for their support,” she commented.

Meanwhile, Maryam’s father, Assoc. Prof Dr. Muzamir Hasan said, Maryam’s success was difficult to expect because it was also attended by participants of various ages from 70 countries.

However, he still sent entries because he was confident in the innovation produced by his eldest daughter.

“Alhamdulillah, Maryam managed to win not one gold, but three golds in her first participation abroad.

œThis year and last year, Maryam won a gold medal in the Design, Creative and Innovation Competition (CITREX) category.

œActually, the idea of producing this pet food was sparked by frequent visits to seafood restaurants here.

“From the skin of the shrimp or snails that are discarded, it should be recycled and used as animal feed. Therefore, the animal feed is called YAM 2.0,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Sunday (26 September) congratulated Maryam Muzamir for making the country proud with her success in winning three gold medals at the 6th International Invention, Innovation Competition (iCAN).

Impressed with the achievements of the year-five student, Ismail Sabri said he prayed that Maryam would continue to forge more success in the future.

The Prime Minister said this in his social media account on Sunday.***
