GOMBAK, 12 April 2021: The Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRKHS) hosted a community engagement meeting with seven village headmen from villages within the vicinity of the IIUM Gombak campus to roll out projects deemed necessary and impactful to the respective villages.

The seven villages involved are Kampung Sungai Pusu, Kampung Kerdas, Kampung Gombak Utara, Kampung Simpang Tiga, Kampung Tengah, Kampung Changkat, and Kampung Sungai Chinchin.

The village headmen arrived at KIRKHS Al Tabari Conference Room at 10.00 a.m today for a short briefing and were later sent to different meeting rooms to have a discussion with their assigned departments.

All eleven departments of KIRKHS were assigned to the respective villages for them to organise projects that relate to their department specialisation.

“In Islam, they (neighbours) are the most rightful recipients of what we should deliver to other people,” the Deputy Dean of Student Development and Community Engagement KIRKHS, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohd Noh Bin Abdul Jalil, emphasised when describing the seven surrounding villages as neighbours of IIUM.

Established in 2019, this is the third community engagement meeting between KIRKHS and the village headmen. The series of meetings was aimed to find a focal point of what KIRKHS could deliver and what the villagers require.

This engagement is important to ensure that the aid provided by KIRKHS to the villages are not mere projects imposed on these communities with the assumption that these projects would solve the villagers’ problems.

With constant and applaudable engagements achieved by KIRKHS and the village headmen, the kulliyah hopes that the projects rolled out will be sustainable and continue to benefit the community in the years to come.***
