GOMBAK, 12 March 2018: The mass running event from Convest Hill and around IIUM campus held on Saturday (10 March) was just for one purpose – to raise donations for the aborigines.

Hosted by the ‘Community Outreach for Orang Asli Development’ or shortly known as COMRADE club, this was their first fundraising programme involving running.

Having been to Perak, Pahang and Kelantan aborigines’ villages, COMRADE members were determined to help the indigenous people. ‘That is why we organised this event to raise fund for them,” said programme manager of Run for Aborigines (RFA), Muhd Farhan Md Nasir. “I am very surprised that many people signed up for the run,” he added.

Other than raising fund, COMRADE also focused on promoting a healthy lifestyle among the runners. ‘There might be a similar programme like this in future since it received plenty of positive feedback from the runners,” said the programme manager.

The event was divided into two categories: the 7 kilometre run that took place in the morning and the 50 kilometre virtual run that kicked off two weeks before the event day. What more, the 50 kilometre virtual run was the first ever virtual race inside Gombak campus, no organisation or club had done it before.

After the entrants completed the race, they were entitled with finisher medals and e-certificates.***
