JENESYS 2017 brings Japanese exchange students to know more about IIUM

GOMBAK, 9 March 2018: A one-day programme for exchange students from Japan – JENESYS 2017 Outbound Programme to Malaysia – with the aim to promote their culture among IIUM community, at the same time to introduce Japanese students to IIUM in the hope they would consider studying in this university in future, took place at Experimental Hall here yesterday.

The event was organised by the International Affairs, IIUM, in collaboration with Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences Students’ Society (IRKHSSS) and Bachelor of Education Students’ Association (BEDSA).

IIUM was chosen by the Japanese for the programme because this university has approximately 6,000 international students from many parts of the world.

Deputy Rector (International Affairs), Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Berghout said, œNo matter what background you come from, the main objective is for you to study and understand the various culture as well as to improve your knowledge.

The programme was conducted by Assistant Director from Office of International Affairs, Wan Syarinar Wan Ibrahim. This was the third time KIRKHS had collaborated with the Office of International Affairs in conducting a programme for exchange students.

Among activities conducted during the event were cultural demonstrations by the Japanese students  followed by Malaysian cultural performance by IIUM students.

There was also a gamelan musical performance by students from CiTRA to promote Malaysian traditional music to the Japanese students.

President of IRKHSSS, Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz, said that the Japanese students had sought to know more about Islam, the reason why they chose to visit IIUM. Therefore, he felt it’s the responsibility of his association to tell them more about our religion.***
