GOMBAK, 9 March 2018: The inaugural university level Quran hafazan competition named ‘Musabaqah Iqra Mahasiswa Universiti Seluruh Malaysia’ was successfully launched at IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC) here on Wednesday (7 March).
Organised by International Institute for Muslim Unity (IIMU) and Institute for Quranic Education (ITQAN), the competition received contributions and support from the Saudi government.
The Saudi Arabia ambassador to Malaysia, Mahmoud Hassan Saeed Qattan, in his address said that the event reflects the close and warm relations that exist between Saudi Arabia and Malaysia.
œI take this opportunity to pay tribute to the Malaysian government and its people for organising the event, he said.
Meanwhile, IIUM Deputy Rector (International), Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Berghout expressed his appreciations for the support given by the Saudis.
He said that the event was expected to be expanded globally in the next five years.
œNext year, we will go for the Nusantara region and we will get into the Islamic world to make this a great event in which many universities will participate in the competition.
Apart from the Saudi Ambassador, others who attended the event were Chairman of Institute for Quranic Education (ITQAN), Dr. Hassan Firdaus, and Chairman of Khayr Ummah Foundation, Dato’ Dr. Fathul Bari Mat Jahya. ***
