Director of SHAS Mosque hopes more students pray Subuh in congregation

GOMBAK, 28 September 2017: A special programme was conducted by the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (SHAS) Mosque this afternoon (27 September) to hand over donations to Masjid Zakaria, Batu 8 Gombak, for the development of Kampung Sungai Pusu Graveyard, and to deliver the prize to the winners of Quran memorisation competition 2017 and the winner of Subuh warrior 2017.

The programme started with a speech by the Director of IIUM Mosque. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Muhammad Shukri. On the Subuh Warrior Competition, he hoped that the students will not only perform Subuh in congregational during Ramadhan but also during other months as the competition occurred last June during the month of Ramadhan.

Subuh Warrior is a competition where the students will be prized if they were present at the mosque during Subuh prayer for 20 days in the month of Ramadhan, according to the terms and conditions set by the Mosque.

“Prize given is just to encourage the students to come and pray at the mosque often'” said one of the Subuh Warrior winners.

Both competitions were conducted during Ihya Ramadhan Programme organised by SHAS Mosque along with other activities including preparation for sahur, Iftar and Moreh to the people.

The winners of the competitions are as follows:

Subuh Warrior 2017:

– Mohd Jaafar bin Mohd Hamzah Murghayah, Ahmad Ibrahim Kuliyyah of Law (AIKOL)
– Mohd Sobri Bin Ismail, Kuliyyah of Information and communications technology (KICT)
-Muhammad Mus’ab Bin Sahimi, Kuliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRKHS)
– Muhammad Aiman bin Ahmad Shukri, Kuliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (KIRKHS).

Quran Memorisation Competition 2017:

– Dr. Nik Md. Saiful Azizi Nik Abdullah, an assistant professor in Kuliyyah of Education (KOED)

On the Kampung Sungai Pusu Graveyard which is located near to the university’s gate 3, the SHAS Mosque director stated that the RM56771.75 donation was collected to improve the graveyard in terms of quality and quantity.

The donation was the initiative of SHAS’s Mosque itself by the permission by the University Management Committee (UMC) to collect through donation box which was placed for six months starting from June until December 2016 every Friday prayer.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam also mentioned his hope to Masjid Zakaria, which is the caretaker of the graveyard, to help the University in the future regarding dead arrangement for IIUM residents as the land of the graveyard was a charitable land from our university to Selangor Islamic Council or Majlis Agama Islam Selangor (MAIS). ***
