GOMBAK, 30 July 2017: An official hansard record of the discussions held by student leaders during the Student Parliament from 18 to 19 July recently, has been submitted to Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, and the government, for their consideration.

The Hansard record comprises 20 documented suggestions made by student leaders regarding two motions, respectively: “Redesigning Higher Education” and “TN50”.

IIUM Students’ Representative Council (SRC) was in attendance for the Student Parliament and they were able to contribute to the Hansard record by sharing their own suggestions based on the two motions discussed.

“We found that most of the suggestions discussed are relevant and should be taken seriously by the Prime Minister,” sources from SRC told IIUMToday.

According to the SRC, “The student parliament is a good platform for students all around Malaysia to express their ideas and views in creating a better Malaysia via their respective student councils.”

The SRC ensures that the voice of IIUM students were listened to and given attention.

The Student Parliamentary sitting saw 209 representatives from 26 institutions of higher learning, both public and private universities in Malaysia, sharing back and forth on matters affecting the students and the country’s population at large.

IIUM saw the highest participation of its representatives for the Student Parliament as a total of 18 delegates were appointed, including five SRC Executive Committee members.***
