RM400,000 raised at IIUM Alumni Charity Dinner

GOMBAK, 1 August 2017 – The IIUM Alumni Charity Dinner held at IIUM’s Cultural Centre (ICC) last Saturday (29 July) managed to rake in almost RM400,000, short of the target set at RM500,000.

The event, organised by IIUM’s Alumni Department and Global Networking Division, was attended by IIUM Rector, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamarudin, and the Menteri Besar of Pahang, Dato’ Sri DiRaja Haji Adnan bin Haji Yaakob. It was also attended by the Deputy Rector (Internationalisation & Industry and Community Relations), Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Berghout, who gave his welcoming remarks.

In her address at the dinner, the Rector told the guests that the funds raised would be given to the unprivileged students of IIUM throughout their studies through the ALSAFA Fund (Alumni Scholarship and Financial Assistance).

A total of 600 alumni attended the event which was intended to raise funds for the Alumni Scholarship and Financial Assistance (ALSAFA) Fund to be used to assist IIUM students in need.

The Pahang Menteri Besar, who was one of the IIUM’s alumni, contributed a sum of RM50,000 to the ALSAFA Fund.

The Uthman bin Affan Philanthropy Award was given to Dato’ Aznan bin Jaya who contributed RM100,000 to the dinner.

A total of 40 students have been selected to receive the ALSAFA assistance that night.***
