BATU CAVES, 17 April 2016: IIUM Reserve Officer Training Unit (ROTU) Air Force had chosen to conduct community services at IDEAS Autism Centre in conjunction with World Autism week recently. The programme had been carried out during the weekend consisting of cleaning activities around the residence area and entertaining the children of the centre.
According to the programme manager, Siti Nurseha Zakaria, the objectives of the event were to give back to the society and to expose the cadets to the community around them.
œThis programme aimed to create awareness especially about people who are less fortunate than us and as a fardh kifayah to the society, said Siti Nurseha.
She also expressed her heartfelt appreciations regarding the programme that went successfully as planned. She highlighted the importance of polishing soft skills among members with this kind of activity.
œI am happy with the result of this programme and with cooperation given by my cadets throughout the day. Everyone seemed to enjoy himself or herself, she added.
Wanting to bring something new to the cadets, the training officer of IIUM ROTU Air Force, Lieutenant Mohd ˜Aizat Abdul Razzaq regarded that “this is also one form of ibadah that they could do other than conducting Ibadah Camp for the cadets”.
IDEAS Autism Centre, located at Taman Bukit Templer was established in October 2012 and targeted to help Autism children. According to the principal, Sharifah Bt Salleh, the Centre is not only an education centre but also a training and therapy centre to help the children to be more independent, to develop and polish their soft skills like communication and social skills. ***
