Week of the board games by ELITS

GOMBAK, 20 April 2016: Showing why boredom and board games just never go hand in hand with each other, the Secretariat of English Language and Literature (ELITS) will be organising a four-day event called Tabletop Game Week from 25 to 28 April at IIUM’s very own HS Square.

What is it all about? Head organiser of Tabletop Game Week, Rahimie explained: “It is a week where we prepare contemporary board games for all IIUM students to play and just to have fun with.”

A variety of over 20 board games will be provided during the entire span of the event, and the genre of board games that will be played goes according to the theme of each day.

The ‘Art of Deception’ theme day involves a full display of board games that will test the loyalty and trust its players have for each other, while the theme ‘Rise with the Sun’ provides students with a myriad of interesting and popular Japanese board games for them to enjoy.

“One could also argue that these board games that will be in store for students are perhaps new and ‘hipster’, so to speak.”

“We would like to introduce contemporary board games to students because most have already grown up with Monopoly or Scrabble,” Rahimie said.

“What they haven’t gotten the chance of playing is up-to-date games like Resistance or Machi Koro that many haven’t heard of before.”

Rahimie and his team of organisers hope that everyone who participates in the event will build new bonds with each other, or strengthen the bonds that have already been built.***
