GOMBAK, 19 April 2016: The Inter-Mahallah Culture Week 2016 (IMCW2016) has made it to the end. With the theme of traditional concept the closing ceremony has brought the audiences back to the era of the Malay sultanate. It was held at the CAC Main Hall and was officiated by the Deputy Rector (Student Affairs), Datuk Dr. Mizan Hitam.

The opening event opened with a dance performance from Nafastari accompanied by beautiful performance from IIUM Caklempong. The night witnessed the berbalas pantun finale between Mahallah Billal and Farouq. Both teams gave their best to become the winner, however, victory belonged to Mahallah Farouq.

Mahallah Billal and Sumayyah dominated the night by winning many categories of awards. For Mahallah Billal, they were able to get a place in debate, berbalas pantun, solo, dance, nasyeed, poetry and boria. As for Mahallah Sumayyah, they got a place in fashion show, poetry, dikir barat, and drama. Each Mahallah had given a fierce competition to be raised as a winner.

The event was also graced with performances by participants of unplugged boria and solo. On that night, before Dr. Mizan delivered his speech he was shocked by the gimmick from Silat Cekak Ustaz Hanafi that played a role as Malacca Malay Warrior. To fit in with the gimmick, Dr. Mizan was required to be in the act as the Sultan of Malacca when he officiated the closing ceremony for IMCW 2016.

In his speech, Dato’ Dr. Mizan expressed his appreciation to all the participants who had demonstrated their soft skills and developed their confidence. He also gave special thanks to all principals, fellows and committees who had contributed to making the night a reality.

“Praise should be given to all participants of each Mahallah and all committee members who had put in their hard work to make the Inter-Mahallah Culture Week one of the most memorable events in IIUM,” Dr. Mizan said.***
