IIUM lecturers receive awards at Malaysia Technology Expo 2016

GOMBAK, 3 March 2016: “I would not go for cash prize, rather, I prefer to receive a medal,” said Prof. Dr. Roslina Othman, the recipient of two awards at a Malaysian technology expo recently.

The head of Semantic Body of Knowledge and Technology Research Unit, Kulliyyah of Information and Technology received a gold medal and INNOPA (Indonesian Invention and Promotion Association) special award  at Malaysia Technology Expo 2016 (MTE).

She said, “I prefer a medal rather than cash prize because we can exhibit medal but not cash prize.”

The two awards were in recognition of her inventions called Wisdom- & Semantic-based Search System for Quranic Texts on the Web or known as ‘WiSeMantiQ’.

According to her, the aim of this invention was to provide a truthful and reliable content that’s based on the real Islamic teaching.

At the same event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Che Noraini Hashim from Kulliyyah of Education, was also awarded gold medal for her project called ‘Love Pedagogy at School Setting: Empowering Teaching and Learning Through Pedagogy of Love and Care’.

MTE was held on 18 until 20 February 2016 at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur (PWTC) where researchers, scientists and innovators from the government, private higher learning institutions and individuals showcased their ideas.***
