Flood causes problems in HS Cafeteria

GOMBAK: It has been rather hot and dry lately in Kuala Lumpur and parts of Selangor. Then the rain fell. And it fell rather heavily last Monday. Parts of the HS café were submerged with water because of the heavy rain. The area also lacked an efficient drainage system to quickly draw away the fast flowing water.

The situation is not new to students, staffs and even among visitors to IIUM. When it rains, the drains cannot draw away all the water thus causing an overflow of water around HS Cafeteria.

It caused a disruption to many. The flood has affected the Daya Bersih’s cleaners since they had to clean up the area.

“We cannot enjoy our meals since the floor is smelly with the floor full of water,” said Wan Muhammad Irfan, a Political Science student.

“I cannot even sit and have a meal. Hopefully, the authority will take immediate actions to solve this problem,” Said Zul, IRK student.

This flood had also affected the shops around the area since students preferred the second floor which was dry area and had better environment.

“When the rain water started to overflow in front of our shops, there is a high tendency for students to go to other outlets. This has affected our business. The flood is probably due to the drainage system behind our shops,” said Aida and Siti.

The authorities said they would look into the matter.
