GOMBAK: A newly formed unit at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (SHAS) Mosque, the Iqra’ and Qur’an unit, aims to increase the quality of Qur’an recitation among IIUM staffs.

The new addition to the three existing operating units at the SHAS Mosque is hoped to propel the university to reach its mission of creating a unique Quranic generation by imparting the Qur’an Al Karim with perfect recitation, makhraj, and huruf.

The unit is headed by Ustaz Mohammad Asfandyar Dilawar Khan acting as the third Deputy Director of SHAS Mosque and facilitated by Religious Officer, Ustaz Ramadhan Subky Abdullah and Assistant Religious Officer, Suhairiza Deris.
“It is an Islamic University, students and staffs have Islamic relationship with the university so they have to recite the Quran al Karim and recite the ta’limat of al-quran and they should implement IT in their life,” said Ustaz Mohammad Asfandyar.

The unit envisions that the knowledge that the staffs gained will spread to their children, thus emanating a unique flow to spread the correct knowledge about Qur’anic recitation to the younger generation.

The unit also seeks to give the opportunity for participants to tahsin their tilawatil Qur’an in order to increase their confidence in reciting the Qur’an and leading congregational prayers.
