The IIUM Sports Awards 2013 was held yesterday at Banquet Hall, Rectory Building of International Islamic University Malaysia.
The event was held to congratulate IIUM Mustangs varsity team on the excellence achievement in MASUM GAMES 2013.
The Guest-Of-Honor, Deputy Rector (Students Affairs) Prof. Datuk Dr. Mizan Hitam and Rector of IIUM, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin attended the awards and gave a speech in welcoming the guests and the media.
16 awards were given out during the event.
Omar Ahmad Abdi Essa from Somalia won the coveted Athletic Sportsman Award 2013, while Siti Hajar Mohd Azhar from Malaysia won for Karatedo in Sportswoman Award 2013.
Mohamad Nasharuddin Ismail from IIUM Rugby team was awarded as Most Promising Sportsman Award 2013, and Nor Syazana Mohd Rusli for Tenpin Bowling was awarded the Most Promising Sportswoman Award 2013.
At the end of the event, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin said in an interview that the event was one of the events that she really enjoyed.
She recognized that the university managed to give full support to its athletes for all their efforts and to our sports centre who has been organizing this program.
She too added that she pray and hope that in the upcoming MASUM Games to be held in UPSI, the IIUM Mustangs will score more gold, silver and bronze to show that they have move forward and with a more sporting spirit.
