GOMBAK, 14 April 2015: About 200 participants from the 40th batch of Personal Growth Group (PGG) joined the Family Day that was held at Maryams Lake on last weekend before the mid-semester break recently.
Established in 1997, PGG is one of the Counselling Services Centre (CSC) support groups, aimed at developing students self-potential, self-confidence and self-esteem. Besides that, it also helps students to build dynamic personalities with positive personal growth. There are six phases in the PGG starting with family day session, workshop, co-facilitator, facilitator, advance facilitator and community service responsibility (CSR).
œFamily Day is a part of the first phase in PGG which is session. Every semester, new members will be divided into 20 groups consisting of 10 to 12 members for each groups. There are six sessions that are conducted by the facilitator with the help of co-facilitator. Family day is a special day that takes place after the third session for each group to get to know with other session group members in PGG, said Muhammad Nurhafifi Zulkifly, the counsellor at the CSC who in charge for PGG.
PGG intake session focuses on the first and second year students from both Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) and direct intake students. This is to help students to adjust themselves in the new campus environment just in case they are experiencing culture shock. Every module in the sessions is designed to encourage students communication skills and to bring out their inner self so they can be more confident in front of the others.
œBesides mingling with other session group members, the main objective of the Family Day is to spread awareness that all PGG members are one family. It also acts as a platform for the sessions’ members to test out their confident level in front of all PGG members by playing lots of games involving communication skills, added Muhammad Nurhafifi Zulkifly.
First year Human Sciences student, Fatin Eliyana Afandi, said the PGG Family Day was full of excitement and she wanted to join it again next semester. œI really like the games and it is super fun because I got to know many new friends, she added.
It’s not just Family Day, PGG is also organising outdoor outing and annual grand dinner for all members to enjoy every semester.***
