GOMBAK, 29 May 2024: The passion in baking encouraged the founder of MY QT Bites to start her bakery. MY QT Bites was one of several local businesses that was involved in the Exhibition on Empowering Local Entrepreneurs in Gombak organised by IIUM’s Integrated Marketing Communication students and the Communication Students’ Association (COSA). The event was conducted on Wednesday, 29 May 2024 in Human Sciences Square at IIUM Gombak from 8.00 a.m. until 5.00 p.m.
There were nine local entrepreneurs that had set up booths in the exhibition. MY QT Bites sold a large variety of desserts and attracted a lot of IIUM customers to buy them.
The owner of MY QT Bites narrated her journey on how she initiated her business until she successfully launched her own cafe which is now located at Danau Kota, Kuala Lumpur. It all began during the COVID-19 pandemic when she started to produce cakes for sale but on a smaller scale.
Then, she said more people started to order her cakes. In view of this, she decided to enrol in baking class and learned how to make cakes as well as decorating them. As time went by, she eventually rented a house to produce her cakes.
After five years, she managed to open her own cafe and called My Qt Bites. At the cafe, there are various types of desserts, pastries and coffee. One of the top tier menus which has become the special highlight of her business is the baby-friendly cake.
Generally, baby-friendly cakes do not contain any salt and sugar, that is safe for babies. Starting from the age of six months and above, babies are allowed to eat cake but without ingredients such as: honey, salt, sugar, or gluten for the babies who are allergic to it.
However, babies who are one year old and above are allowed to consume cakes that contain honey while babies who are two years old and above are able to eat cakes that contain sugar.
She started to produce baby-friendly cakes after making a birthday cake for her one-year-old baby. Since then, she has been receiving a lot of orders from many customers and this has encouraged her to continue baking.
“Do not give up, keep on learning and find something that is creative and different from others,” the owner of My QT Bites gave advice as a form motivation to those who would like to form their business, at the end of the interview session.***
