Intercultural dialogue between India and ASEAN countries, a catalyst for collaborations

GOMBAK, 23 May 2024: On a fateful afternoon, the High Commissioner of India, Malaysia, H.E. Mr. B.N. Reddy shared his keynote speech titled, “The New India Growth Story: Emerging Opportunities for Malaysia and ASEAN,” at the Banquet Hall of Muhammad Abdul Rauf Building, IIUM on 20 May 2024 (Monday).

The main theme of the event is to explore and discuss new yet exciting opportunities and cultivate the spirit of collaboration between India and the ASEAN region.

The event started with opening remarks from the master of ceremony followed by a Quran recitation of Surah Al-Hujurat. Then, the event continued with welcoming remarks from the Rector of the IIUM, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak.

In his brief remark, the IIUM Rector also encouraged the audience of the hall as well as the esteemed guests to join the symposium which would be held on 7 June this year.

The event resumed with a speech by the Deputy Rector of Student Development and Community Engagement of the IIUM, Prof. Dr. Akmal Khuzairy bin Abd. Rahman.

The highlight of the event finally started with a special talk by H.E. Mr. B.N. Reddy.

His Excellency gave a detailed yet comprehensive introduction on the topic. He continued the speech by explaining the emerging multipolar world which emphasised on the fast changing geo-political and geo-economic scenarios.

“India along with several BRICS countries, will now be involved in reforming the global decision making process,” H.E. Mr. B.N. Reddy stated. BRICS stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Furthermore, His Excellency added on the current transformation of India over the last decade by highlighting certain key features. One of them is how India’s stock market became the fourth largest in the world in April 2024.

On top of that, the High Commissioner also shared the key innovations or initiatives that are propelling economic growth in India.

“India is navigating and also playing an important role in the global energy transition,” remarked H.E. Mr. B.N. Reddy on discussion of the progress of renewable energy.

Last but not least, H.E. Mr. B.N. Reddy addressed future collaboration efforts between India and ASEAN countries at the end of his keynote address.

The promising event ended with closing remarks by the Deputy Rector and also the Head of Department of Political Science, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syaza Farhana binti Mohamad Syukri.
