GOMBAK, 21 May 2024: Focusing on the topic of digital literacy, communication students of the Communication Department, AHAS KIRKHS that are taking COMM4994: Practical Training, are organising a one-day educational program titled, “Unleashing Potential: Empowering Students in the Digital Age,” on 28 May 2024. This program is for all IIUM students.
The one day program will run from 9.00am until 5.00pm, at the Human Sciences building. The event will comprise sub-events such as talks, podcasts, a forum, and sharing sessions by speakers from within and outside of the IIUM. By inviting esteemed speakers and organisations to deliver their knowledge and expertise, students may benefit from these sessions by preparing them for the working world in future.
This event aims to equip students with essential skills and knowledge to thrive in the ever-changing digital world, recognizing its significant impact on the students’ success. It also provides a platform for students to develop their interest in the digital industry while building strong bonds between the IIUM and the digital technology community.
Some of the sub-events include a talk by TV icon Ally Iskandar, podcasts about personal branding and online free expression at IIUMTV, a sharing session about the dangers of cyberspace by a cybersecurity expert, and a forum on Media Communication and Artificial Intelligence by guest speakers from various backgrounds.
There will also be an exhibition at HS Square by organisations such as Ebdesk Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Karangkraf, SKEM Driving Academy, and many more.
Aside from that, the Practical Training students will also organise a series of interactive games called ‘Human vs AI’ in HSC Speech Lab for students to upskill their cognitive, technical, and social skills through fun activities.
“In an effort to equip the COMM 4995 students for internship, this program is designed to expose them on how to plan, organise, and execute tasks and events, especially in a work setting. They will also be able to build networks with internal and external stakeholders,” said course instructor and Advisor of COMM 4995, Dr. Nur Shakira binti Mohd Nasir.
“Aside from empowering students, it also teaches them to be responsible when it comes to professional work. Students get to have hands-on experience by applying theoretical knowledge that they have learned throughout their education years at the IIUM. By organising such events, students refine their essential skills such as problem-solving, communication, and decision-making,” she adds.
The Programme Director of the event, Sr. Nur Hayati binti Ahmad Baki, expressed her optimism in the success of the program.
“I hope these collaborative efforts by every internship student will bring value, inspiration, and a renewed sense of creativity to everyone involved, and I welcome everyone to come join us in this first digital program organised by Communication Internship students,” she said.
