IIUMSU Election 2023: Nadzmi to nurture intellectualism on campus

GOMBAK, 30 May 2023: Muhammad Nadzmi Wajdi Bin Yushadi, a student from AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) contested for the Education Seat in the IIUM Student Union Election 2023.

“I dream to see a campus where intellectualism is nurtured and where students understand the importance of values and virtues from discourse and sincere interactions,” said Nadzmi in an interview with IIUMToday.

Additionally, he mentioned his aim to instill the values of idealism, activism, and intellectualism in each and every IIUM student. 

He envisioned, “A campus where art and culture flourish, and where knowledge takes the utmost role that guides the action of students while upholding essential democratic values.”

When asked about his aims regarding his manifesto, he mentioned that he will focus on three aspects to execute his mission and vision, which are intellectual discourse, education financial aid and the Stationery Assistance Programme. 

He mentioned, “To put it into perspective we may organise a monthly Speakers corner, weekly book discussions and debates in public spaces on campus by emphasizing the arts and literature.” 

He also said he would like to assist needy students financially through crowdfunding and by facilitating them get education funds by collaborating with the Office of Welfare

He would like to provide the Stationery Assistance Programme to subsidise stationery for students because stationeries like calculators will cost a lot.  

He also added, “My mother is a teacher, my late grandfather was also a teacher. The spirit of educators has been engraved in my blood since my early years. I have seen firsthand how education has changed the lives of people.” 

He thinks that the Union and the lives of students will change as a result of their empowerment through education.

In defining a good leader, Nadzmi said, “A good leader makes space for others, facilitates, listens, and more importantly a good leader is always there for their people.”

He was once the Vice Head of the Intellectual Bureau for Wawasan Club IIUM, Secretary 1 for Jawatankuasa Akademik dan Intelektual (JKAI) Harmoni IIUM and he also had experience in being a Programme Manager for a programme that discussed on current issues, especially those that touched on students’ interests.***
