GOMBAK, 21 May 2023: In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the IIUM, Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj commemorated the success of the university built through the collective strength and cumulative impact of small victories the university has witnessed throughout the 40 years of establishment.
Her Majesty, who is the second IIUM Constitutional Head, expressed her appreciation to the late Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mu’azzam Shah, who led the IIUM as the first Constitutional Head from 1983 until 2019 with passion and compassion.
“To members of the Board of Governors, the Presidents, the Rectors, all staff and students, whose efforts over the last four decades have enabled the IlUM’s Vision to flourish. We have benefitted immensely from their contributions in times of great change and growth,” Her Majesty added during the IIUM Special Convocation today.
The Queen also commended the present leadership and community of the lIUM who broadened the horizons of the university in cultivating talents through a unique curriculum infused with Islamic knowledge and philosophy of excellence.
“In just 40 years, everyone’s sheer efforts have brought the lIUM from only having two Kulliyyahs to being a globally recognized institution, hosting students from over 100 countries, viewed alongside international universities that are centuries old.”
“Let’s continue to forge our commitments to carry out the important task of educating the young generations, or our most important connections to the future, the hopes of our nation and the ummah, the inventors and innovators, and leaders of the world,” she added.
Representing the IIUM Community, Her Majesty also expressed her utmost gratitude to His Majesty for consenting to accept the Honorary Doctorate in Leadership awarded in conjunction with IIUM’s 40th anniversary during the Special Convocation ceremony. ***
