GOMBAK, 15 May 2023: In efforts to express gratitude towards the staff of Daya Bersih, the IIUM Secretariat of Sociology and Anthropology (SOCASA) organised the SOCA Peduli programme where, students worked together with Daya Bersih staff to clean the first floor of the Human Sciences building on Saturday (May 13).

The Programme Manager for this activity was Br. Rafif Muhammad Gusti,  who emphasised the importance of appreciating Daya Bersih staff as well as keeping the campus clear from trash.

He said that the purpose of this programme was to help the Daya Bersih staff in cleaning the leftover waste from a recent event as well as to recognise their efforts in keeping the campus clean and comfortable for all.

“We must appreciate the Daya Bersih staff as they are important people. We must remind ourselves that they are the ones that keep this campus comfortable for everyone. That is why we need to show them some appreciation,” he emphasised.

He added that for the programme, a total of 40 students volunteered to spring clean the first floor of the Human Sciences building alongside six cleaners. Students were divided into five groups to target cleaning different areas.

According to the cleaning team leader, Farisah Nawawi, of the Human Sciences building stated that she felt delighted to work with students through the programme.

“I feel happy because I get to work with students and I see how sincere they are in helping us and planning this programme for us today. It takes off our workload for the upcoming Monday,” she expressed.

“We feel tired because recently there was an event held which resulted in a lot of rubbish being left. We want to remind students not to leave their rubbish around because that is what consumes most of our work,” she advised.

“We would like there to be more programmes like SOCA Peduli in the future because it makes us happy and it is fun to work with students,” she concluded.

Due to the positive feedback, the Secretariat of Sociology and Anthropology plans to have similar programmes in future.

The event ended with a token of appreciation as well as a photography session with everyone involved.***
