GEORGE TOWN, 25 April 2025: On 19 and 20 April 2025, students from universities across
Malaysia gathered at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) for the Mega Townhall x Gen-Z Dialogue to
share ideas and national aspirations in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of Rakan Muda.
The programme was organized by the Secretariat Rakan Muda USM (SRMUSM) in
collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Pulau Pinang and the Rakan Muda
Secretariat of UiTM Permatang Pauh. As a mandatory initiative under SRM IPT, the dialogue
served as a platform for student representatives to exchange ideas, raise proposals, and voice
youth aspirations directly to be highlighted to the ministry.
The event also drew around 2,000 visitors, showing the importance of youth discussions in
shaping Malaysia’s future. The programme aligns with the Malaysian Youth Development Model
2030, which encourages youth to take part in national growth. It also shows USM’s effort to
shape well-rounded students and support global goals like peace and justice.

Highlights of the event included a discussion forum, exhibitions, performances, and a Mega
Town Hall session with Deputy Director-General of the Department of Youth and Sports, YB Syamsul Tahrin bin Mohd Tahir and YB Professor Dr. Azizah binti Omar, Director of the HEBAT Development Centre, Universiti Sains Malaysia. The event also featured the signing of a memorandum to establish the National Rakan Muda Secretariat Council (MSRMC).
This initiative aligns with USM’s mission to develop well-rounded students through
H.E.B.A.T. values and supports global goals like peace, justice, and strong institutions, as
outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 16).
