GOMBAK, 28 April 2023: A notice by the IIUM Student Union Election Commission 23/24 regarding the IIUM Student Union (IIUMSU) Election 2023 was conveyed live via YouTube on 15 April 2023.
The live broadcast was presented by Br. Nabil Haziq bin Yazid who explained the flow of the election and the rules of the nomination and election.
He stated that the voting will be conducted physically on all three campuses in Gombak, Kuantan and Pagoh.
The number of seats to be contested are as follows:
Central Seat
i. President (1 seat)
ii. Secretary (1 seat)
iii. Treasurer (1 seat)
iv. International I (1 seat)
v. International II (1 seat)
General Seat
i. Deputy President I (1 seat)
ii. Deputy President II (1 seat)
iii. Deputy President III (1 seat)
iv. Vice President I (1 seat)
v. Vice President II (1 seat)
vi. Assistant Secretary I (1 seat)
vii. Assistant Secretary II (1 seat)
viii. Assistant Treasurer I (1 seat)
ix. Assistant Treasurer II (1 seat)
Office Seat
i. Gombak
A. Office of Education (2 seats)
B. Office of Welfare (2 seats)
C. Office of Communication Advocacy and Promotion (2 seats)

Regarding the total number of seats, substantial amendments of the IIUMSU constitution regarding the total allocation of seats that will be contested have yet to be finalized. The IIUMSU is still waiting for the approval of the amendments from the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
There will be changes made to the candidate seats from time to time and these will be announced on a later date.
Br. Nabil further highlighted the rules of the nomination and election.
Nomination:
The candidate(s) for the Central Seat, General Seat, and Office Seat must be full-time, active, registered students of the IIUM and members of the IIUM Student Union.
Election:
Candidate(s) for the Central Seat shall be voted by all registered voters of the IIUM Student Union while for the Office Seat, candidate(s) shall be voted only by registered voters of the respective locality.

These are the important dates announced by the Election Commission:
15 April 2023: Notice of the Election
5 May 2023: Nomination Day
12 – 13 May 2023: Candidate Competency Workshop
13 – 14 May 2023: Central Seat Campaign Tour
15 – 24 May 2023: Candidates Debate includes Presidential Debate
25 May 2023: Polling Day and Unofficial Announcement (10pm or 11pm)
Nabil explained that there are a few changes made due to the amendments of the election rules and regulations. A copy of the finalized rules can be found on Linktree.
Students were advised to check their voting eligibility on the Official Website of IIUM SUs official website or access it through IIUM SU Election Commissions Linktree. The mode of voting in the election will be announced later. ***
