GOMBAK, 14 March 2023: Four law students of the IIUM won first place as well as received the Best Counsel Award in the Harun M. Hashim National Client Consultation Competition 2023 (NCCC) from 11 March to 12 March 2023.
The NCCC is held annually where Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Law (AIKOL) became the host for this year’s event to encourage law students to become experts in the practical and soft skills required for client consultation and management in a legal office.
The winning team will represent Malaysia at the Brown-Mosten International Client Consultation Competition, which will take place in the Netherlands from 11 April to 15 April 2023 and will be hosted by the University of Maastricht.
Other than IIUM, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UITM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNISZA), and Universiti of Malaya (UM) also participated in this event to showcase their abilities.
The program manager of NCCC, Naielah Nafisah binti Muhammad Zarkashi said that the client consultation focuses on a legal professional’s capability to comprehend and digest a client’s needs, emotions, and expectations through in-depth interaction carried out in a professional manner, regardless of how high or low the stakes were.
œIt depends on the person to always treat their client like a human being no matter what kind of situation, she said.
After facing the struggles from the IIUM and UUM in the final round, IIUMs team consisted of Aiman Amani Isma, Shafiqah Haifa, M. Aiman Ilhami, and Tariq Arifin was finally declared the winner of NCCC 2023.
Additionally, IIUM also earned another award when one of its members, Aiman Amani Isma binti A. Karim, received the Best Counsel Award followed by UUM receiving the Runner-up Award.
