GOMBAK, 14 December 2022: Nur Maisarah Kamalhisham or Maika, a second year first semester Psychology student from the AbdulHamid AbuSulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (AHAS KIRKHS) is dedicated to execute her responsibilities as the Secretariat of Psychology.

Her vision is to make Psychology Student’s Association (PSYCSTA) a platform for students to refine their academic competence and social skills while her mission is to improve PSYCSTA’s reputation and provide opportunities to benefit its members.

Her manifestos are:

  1. To provide collaboration and opportunities with national and international organisations that advocate for mental health
  2. To provide exposure to Psychology students by experiencing Psychology-based programmes outside IIUM
  3. To provide tuition and mentorship mainly for students repeating Psychological Statistics.

On her first manifesto, since she has been engaged with representatives from United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and Green Ribbon Group, she planned to provide potential internship opportunities to students.

On her second manifesto, she mentioned how she wouldn’t want any students to be left behind and provide them exposure to psychology-based programmes as saying, “It is now my time to provide the opportunities I’ve had.”

Maika further planned in her third manifesto to conduct mentorship targeted towards helping first and second year students to pass psychological statistics because students tend to fail the subject.

She shared that a leader needs to lead by example and leave a mark in which she stated, “People will remember and want to follow you while also being transparent enough that others will approach you.”

“If I’m a leader, I don’t just tell people what to do because I like to guide people by sharing my knowledge as it can ease them in the future,” she said.

“Planning gives me a foundation to work on because if you fail to plan, you plan to fail which is why I prepare a schedule ahead of time to ease my daily tasks,” she added.

In her final words, she advised students to vote for someone who can motivate them to achieve their goal and cares for their future just like her.

Maika has vast leadership experiences including the Funding Director and Secretary of the Interact Club in her high school which later on she was chosen as the President of all Interact Clubs in Kuala Lumpur. She was also appointed as the Assistant Head of International Bureau in Umission and later became the Head of International Mission.***
