GOMBAK, 5 December 2022:  A former Menteri Besar of Pahang, Tan Sri Adnan Yaakob, finally completed his Bachelor of Law degree from Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Law at the age of 72.

He received his scroll during the third session of the 38th IIUM Convocation Ceremony at the Main Hall of the Cultural Activity Centre (CAC), yesterday (4 December).

He shared his academic journey of studying in IIUM although he had already received a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Malaya in 1975 and a Diploma in Education in the same University in 1977.

“Since I was a child I loved seeking knowledge and I would read Utusan Melayu and The Straits Times from my early age,” he said.

He enrolled in the IIUM Law course in 1984 and was among the students from the second batch but had to postpone his studies due to the general election in 1986.

“In 2016, I continued my studies and alhamdulillah, after six years with three years of study leave, I finally completed my degree with a CGPA of 3.62 and I was in the rector’s list,” Tan Sri Adnan told.

The former MB was passionate about seeking knowledge as he stated that he is currently searching for an Arabic teacher while studying Qawaidh fiqhiyyah online with a lecturer two times a week.

He also shared that he loved to be surrounded by friends during his study time and explained that without friends it would be hard for him to study.

“It’s not lonely when there are friends to accompany me during my study time as it is more convenient that way,” he explained.

Tan Sri Adnan further shared that he received offers to do chambering in law firms but there might be a high possibility that the chambering will be at Kuantan.

Tan Sri Adnan Yaakob had served as the Menteri Besar of Pahang for the longest period of 19 years from 25 May 1999 until 15 May 2018. He had been active in politics during the 70s and had many affiliations with various political parties.

He advised the youth to regard knowledge as something that comes naturally like when we talk, laugh, walk, and by making it seem natural, we will achieve the best.***
