GOMBAK, 26 November 2022: With the new inauguration of the 10th Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, IIUM Student Union (IIUMSU) has called for better reform and good governance in the new federal administration concerning the future of students.Â
The Union took this opportunity to express students demands for a new perspective in higher education.
The demands were for Akta Universiti dan Kolej Universiti 1971 to be replaced to address current needs of students, student unions to be established in all universities in Malaysia, and for the minister of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to be taken up by a competent individual.
œThe Union hopes that the new government will uphold students rights, needs, and voices, as well as share these common goals with us, it emphasized.
They added that this is to make sure that, working together, we can create a new viewpoint on the higher education system in our nation that will be advantageous to all students.
However, the Union will not hesitate to criticise any wrongdoings or blindly obey the government as IIUMSU will continue to serve as a check and balance to the government.
The IIUMSU congratulated Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim who was appointed the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia by the monarch, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Thursday, 24 November 2022.
During Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahims student years, he was a student leader and an activist that carried major influence over how the student’s and local folk’s demands were actively voiced out.
